“Back Again” With Four Original Steve James’ Tracks

The Back Again EP by Hap Snow’s Whirlwinds features four original songs written and sung by Steve James (aka Steve Fradkin). The title track was recorded live at WNEU Studio at Northeastern University in 1964, produced by Ron Frizzell. “He Can Have Her,” “She,” and “Whole Lot of Rockin'” are demos made in the living room of Steve James around 1963.

Musicians on these recordings include Bill Elgart on drums, James on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Michael Kaye on piano, keyboards and vocals, and Snow on lead guitar and vocals.

In addition, Frankie Mento (Frank Chiumento) mans the drums and Ted Pina plays the bass guitar on the  “Back Again” session.

Unfortunately, these unreleased tracks are some of the only Whirlwinds’ recordings available from their prolific mid-1960s run in which 7-day-a-week gigs at venues such as The Coffee House in Hyannis on the Cape in Massachusetts were often the norm.
